Webinar: How European weapons fuel armed violence in Mexico (18/07 at 5pm CET)

While the EU-CELAC summit is concluding on Tuesday 18/07, we invite you to an online webinar organised by Mexican and European organisations, to shed light on how European weapons fuel armed violence in Mexico and what Europe could do to stop that, and discuss with European and Mexican interlocutors.

From 18 to 25 February 2023, ENAAT and two of its national members, Ohne Rüstung Leben and Rete Pace & Disarmo, took part in an international Delegation to Mexico, organised by Stop US Arms to Mexico with the support of the Comisión Mexicana de Defensa y Promoción de los Derechos Humanos (CMDPDH).

The mission confirmed that European small arms and light weapons (SALWs, mainly guns & rifles, (heavy) machine guns and ammunition) continue fuelling armed violence in Mexico and contribute to serious human rights violations impacting all of the Mexican people.  A significant part of European firearms arrive in Mexico as ‘civilian’ arms or through the US market, a situation that raises questions about corporate social responsibility and circumventing the EU Common position on arms exports.

When: Tuesday 18 July, 17:00-18:30 CET

Speakers:
Laëtitia Sédou, ENAAT
Lucía Chávez, CMDPDH & testimonies from Mexican people
John Lindsay-Poland, Stop US Arms to Mexico
 Annabell Brüggemann, ECCHR
